SOLID TOP TEN FOR COOPER, JACKSON AND BUILDBASE BMW AT SILVERSTONE
The Buildbase BMW team enjoyed a brace of strong results in the eleventh round of the 2015 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Silverstone this weekend, with both Lee Jackson and Richard Cooper securing impressive top ten finishes. After a tough qualifying session, the first race was always going to be difficult for the Buildbase BMW trio. Lee Jackson and Richard Cooper were able to make the best of the situation, finishing 11th and 12th and setting decent lap times to secure strong positions on the grid for race two. Starting 14th, Richard Cooper fought through to the pack and into the top ten and began to chip away at his competitors, passing the Tyco BMW of Tommy Bridewell to take sixth on the penultimate lap. The result sees the Nottinghamshire rider stretch out his lead in the chase for the Riders’ Cup, which is now 16 points over Luke Mossey. Lee Jackson was unable to make the most of a strong starting position, setting off from ninth he lost a number of places in the first few laps but was able to fight back through. One of the fastest riders on track in the closing stages, Jackson eventually crossed the line ninth. It was another difficult weekend for Ryuichi Kiyonari, who retired from the first race and failed to finish in the points in race two. Richard Cooper, 12th & 6th: “One of the things this team is good at is giving you the support between race one and race two. We knew that the result in race one wasn’t really where we should be. We had to rethink the strategy for race two, took a gamble and went for the softer tyre and it was good. I had great rhythm so picked my way through and got through to sixth. I felt if we had been there earlier on I could have been further on as we definitely had the pace.” Lee Jackson, 11th & 9th: “I had good pace in the second race, I just need to grow a pair of balls on the first lap to be honest. If I could have maintained my starting position in the early stages I could have been battling in the top six but I didn’t get into it until after about four laps! It was a good battle and I was quite happy, it’s just a shame I couldn’t keep ahead of Hickman. I think if I’d got to him a bit sooner I could have held him off. I had real good pace, so I just need to grow a pair and get myself further up the grid and stop dropping back.” Ryuichi Kiyonari, DNF & 16th: “It has been a difficult weekend and I’m not very happy with the results. Again we go away with no points. I did not have a great feeling this weekend. It is a shame but we will come out again at Brands Hatch and see what we can do for the end of the season.” Steve Hicken, Team Manager: “After the results in race one it was great for Richard and Lee to do so well in race two. We weren’t where we want to be in the first race but both of them came out fighting in race two and showed really good pace. If Cooper had started further up the grid he could have been fighting towards the front and if Lee had got a good start he had the pace to be fighting for the podium! “It was a difficult weekend with Kiyo. We had a few problems in practice but we don’t really know what went wrong in the races.”
