Solid Home round at the Maxxis British Championship for Lewis Tombs
It was a short drive into Norfolk for the second round of the Maxxis British Championship for Lings Husqvarna supported rider Lewis Tombs. Sunny weather, and a perfectly prepared Cadders Hill circuit awaited the riders on Sunday morning.
Qualifying got underway on the loose sandy track with plenty of water being put down. The MX2 class being the first on track for qualifying. Tombs set a good lap time on his first quick lap which would leave him with 13th gate pick for the two 30 minute races.
The first race got underway perfectly for Tombs, using all the power of the 250 Husqvarna he rounded the first lap in 3rd place behind Watson and Barr. Settling into the race but making some small mistakes cost Tombs a couple of places and he fell back into 5th place. With four laps remaining he consolidated his 5th, until an unfortunate puncture dropped him back to 6th. With a substantial gap over the charging pack, he managed to limp home for 6th place.
The second race got off with not such a great start placed just outside the top ten. An early charge meant Tombs managed to reach 6th place by the halfway mark, with an unfortunate big gap to the riders ahead. It was a matter of ticking off the laps around the now rough and demanding track. Tombs crossed the line with another solid 6th place.
His pair of 6th places at Lyng, gave Tombs 6th overall and moved him up a place to 6th in the championship.
Lewis Tombs " Overall i am happy with today it was good to have two solid top 10 results. Part of me is a bit disappointed about the gap to the guys ahead, but i gave it my all in both races. A big thank you to all the sponsors and everyone for the support, it couldn't be done without them"
