Challenging weekend for FPW Racing at Thruxton

The fast, abrasive and bumpy nature of Thruxton proved challenging for both FPW Racing riders, Storm Stacey and Jorel Boerboom, during round seven of the HEL Performance British Motostar Championship. Storm managed tenth place in race one and a well earned fifth position in race two, with Jorel unlucky to be taken out by another rider in race one and completing race two in thirteenth position. The pair worked together during free practice with Jorel completing the first session narrowly ahead of his teammate, both finishing the day inside the top twelve. The Motostar riders encountered a light rain shower mid-way through qualifying on Saturday morning with all competitors returning to the pits until the rain stopped. Once back out on track it wasn't long before the lap times started to drop, and it was Jorel who set the better time of the two FPW Racing riders to qualify in eleventh place ahead of Storm in fourteenth, however, Storm’s Kalex KTM clocked the top speed overall at the finish line speed trap. Race one was over 10 laps, and the immaculate FPW Racing yellow and green Kalex KTM’s were running line astern at the completion of lap two.

Storm moved into the top ten during lap three where he would enjoy a race long battle with Edmund Best, finishing a close tenth at the chequered flag. Jorel was involved in a close group of riders and unfortunately got taken out, uninjured, in a three rider collision during lap six. Sunday’s race schedule was delayed following the tragic incident involving Mark Fincham in the Superstock 1000 race; the entire FPW Racing team send their condolences to the True Heroes Racing squad, Mark’s family and friends. Race two was reduced to 11 laps due to rescheduling, with Storm starting from the third row of the grid in ninth position and Jorel in 21st following his misfortune in the previous race. Both riders made good starts and completed lap one in sixth and seventeenth positions respectively. Storm was involved in a close battle with Edmund Best and Mike Brouwers for the entire race distance and took a hard fought fifth place at the finish. Jorel found himself in a four rider battle for the majority of the race, heading the group at the chequered flag to finish in thirteenth place. With nine races remaining, Storm remains in third position overall with a 25 point advantage over Eugene McManus; Jorel sits just outside the top ten in eleventh place. Round eight of the HEL Performance British Motostar Championship takes place over the weekend of 18-20 August at Cadwell Park.
