SR75 World Team Suzuki: Back in Title Contention
SR75 World Team Suzuki came out fighting at round two of the 2017 Arenacross Tour at Glasgow’s SSE Arena on Saturday with Thomas Ramette and Cyrille Coulon dragging themselves right back into contention.
After the disappointment of round one when bad luck in the Main Event dropped them down the leaderboard the two Frenchmen had a point to prove.
Qualifying went well with both riders once again showing incredible speed to run 1-2 with Thomas taking his second pole of the series just 0.002 ahead of Cyrille to set themselves up for the evening show.
Heat one saw Thomas dominate and still have time to check out different lines on the tight track. Cyrille was slowed entering turn one in the second heat which put him at the back of the pack but he started to work his way through before being taken down by a stray tuff block. He was quickly up and recovered for fifth.
A malfunction with the lap scoring initially handed Cyrille a DNF. This was rectified but he was credited with sixth rather than his actual fifth-placed finish.
Heat three saw the pair pitted together with a fired-up Cyrille taking a smooth victory and Thomas a cool second which put them straight through to the final in first and fourth places.
The Hot Lap went well with Cyrille picking up valuable extra points for the win and Thomas grabbing a point for third.
The Main Event brought a fantastic show of control and focus and, with both SR75 Suzukis rounding the first turn together, that focus only increased throughout the race.
Cyrille took command with Thomas a heartbeat behind as both guys clicked off the laps with a smooth flow showing just how confident they are. After 14 laps they crossed the line an ecstatic first and second. Point proved!
The feeling is great for the team to come back so forcefully and after another unpredictable night Cyrille now leads the AX Pro class with defending champion Thomas just four points behind. SR75 Suzuki now also leads the Team Championship standings.
What a night and what a show of determination from the riders and team personnel. Thanks as always to our fantastic team partners.
Cyrille Coulon – 1st
“Tonight is great for me, is great for my team-mate and is great for my team. We all like work and we all know we work for good performance on every track every time. I like Glasgow and this is the second time I am winning here with double podium for team.
“It’s such a good feeling on my SR75 Suzuki bike and I feel nice control every time I ride. I thank all in my team, all team sponsors and my family. I feel good and is very cool to come back with a good result as I want show I am fast again after last week.”
Thomas Ramette – 2nd
“I feel good to get this result and it is awesome to make this race with Cyrille and for the team. We are riding strong and feeling great on track and the focus I found to recover and make a good performance this week makes me happy.
“I would like to thank the team and all the team partners as we work to make things perfect every day and I feel amazing with the control of my SR75 Suzuki on every millimetre of the track. I would also like to thank ex-SR75 team racer and current sponsor Tom Church for organising my physio sessions to help me get ready for tonight. Congratulations to Cyrille. This was a great night.”
Geoff Walker – Team Principal
“What a great response from the riders to show the focus required to pull off this kind of result. Our championship looked like it was finished last week and the guys have stepped up to the plate.
“Cyrille is riding fantastic with a new level and both guys are so at one with their Suzuki race bikes it is a joy to watch. Win or lose the work and preparation level is the same 24/7 in this team and I think we can all be proud. We don’t give up, we have fun and we will continue to race with a smile and focus as a globally successful team.
“I thank everyone involved and once again a special mention to our Rookie Lites rider Luke Oldfield #LO77 who embraced the opportunity to learn and compete against some great young racers in another fantastic venue in front of so many race fans.”
