Stunning prodium for Stacey at Brands Hatch as Boerboom moves into top 10!
FPW Racing riders Storm Stacey and Jorel Boerboom maintained their consistent good form at Brands Hatch. Storm snatched a fantastic podium finish at the chequered flag in race one after starting from the eighth row of the grid, and backed this up with a close fifth place in race two. Jorel showed great consistency all weekend to finish the races in twelfth and tenth positions respectively, results that move him into the top ten in the Championship. Friday’s free practice sessions went smoothly, the team and riders working well together to ensure a good dry set up for the weekend. Following overnight rain, the track conditions on Saturday morning were difficult at the beginning of the Motostar qualifying session, and on full wets both FPW Racing riders featured towards the top of the timing screens. As the session went on grip levels were changing lap by lap, making the timing of the decision to change tyres crucial.
Jorel was first in and elected for a slick rear tyre, with Storm deciding to continue on wets. In the final few minutes conditions improved significantly, Jorel’s final lap was his best of the session and earned him tenth place on the grid but Storm would face a tough battle in the race having been shuffled down to 22nd place on the grid.
Saturday’s race was postponed following persistent heavy rain immediately before the start, and was rescheduled into Sunday’s timetable. The opening race on Sunday, held over 14 laps, provided a good opportunity for Storm to showcase his racing pedigree. As the start lights went out he began his charge gaining nine places by the completion of the first lap, and by lap six he was holding eighth place and reeling in a six rider group contesting the podium positions. An exciting and closely fought battle ensued over the remaining laps with Storm making progress at every opportunity and being rewarded with third position at the chequered flag by just 0.057 seconds. Jorel maintained his recent consistency to finish in twelfth position.
Race two was held over ten laps at the end of Sunday’s schedule. Storm started from the second row with Jorel on row five. Once again a close group of five riders battled for the podium positions, with just over half a second covering the group (2nd to 6th) at the finish; Storm taking fifth position to maintain his impressive third place overall in the series at the half way stage of the season. Jorel enjoyed a close battle to finish ahead of Liam Delves and Max Cook in a respectable tenth position, a result that moves him inside the top ten overall as the HEL Performance British Motostar Championship heads to round seven at the ultra fast Thruxton circuit over the weekend of 4-6 August.
